About California Council of the Blind

California Council of the Blind (CCB) is a statewide 501(c)3 organization with local chapters that support blind and visually impaired people in diverse ways. Our goal is to encourage self-sufficiency, independence and full participation in society. Since 1934, CCB has been the largest organization of people who are blind or visually impaired in the state and continuously advocates to improve the lives of these individuals.
By utilizing our published resources and CCB membership, we are able to help people who are blind or encountering vision loss to access useful referrals to various agencies and peer mentors. CCB is committed to community support, which allows us to further help these individuals gather resources and gain accessibility to services that will make a difference in their lives.

The California Council of the Blind enhances and protects the rights of people who are blind or visually impaired through:

  • Job training and employment opportunities
  • Continuing education through scholarships for college students
  • Funding for educational services for students
  • Technology loans
  • Allocation of funds for the California School for the Blind
  • Preserving accessible services at state libraries
  • Advocating for talking ATMs and Accessible point of sale machines
  • Working for installation of audible pedestrian signals and detectable edges on train platforms and curbs.
